Last Friday, students at the English dormitory had their yearly
Halloween presentation.

Some did skills on ghosts and monsters, others danced, while
others hosted games.

It's a daunting task for many Koreans to speak the English language,
especially in front of many people.

Presentations can be one of the means that they can use to practice
their speaking skills, as well as to gain confidence.

If you don't have this, you'll probably just end up stammering or even
shying away from people, because you'll always have the idea that they'll
make fun of your mistakes. Take note¡§

"Everybody makes mistakes".

Presentations can also be an avenue for students to bond with each other
and make more friends. So the next time one comes up, don't waste time
on second thoughts. Participate¡ª¡ª

¡ÖThe importance of Grammar¡×

I am supposed to give another grammar trivia
but something that¡¡happened just a few days
ago changed my mimd.

i had a conversation¡¡with someone about the
importance of grammar in the "real" world.
It is¡¡not new to me actually but hearing that
grammar is not really that¡¡important for almost
the nth time made me put my real stand into writing.

To be honest, I partly agree that in some situations
it is accptable to ignore grammar in speaking, in the
condition that the idea that the speaker wants to
express is still understood. In most cases, however,
even the slightest grammar error can make the
meaning of the sentence different from what the
person really wants to say.

I remember one instance when my student told me
that his weekend was bored.

How could that be?

Weekednds can never have any feelings, right?
The student should have said,
" My weekend was boring".
And how will you understand what a person means
when he says, " Can you borrow me your pen?"
These are just two of the many situations I have
experienced which proved to me that grammar is
indeed important not only in writing but also in
speaking. So next time you think that grammar
just makes students'lifedifficult, think again.

"Thank you." Teacher Ellen

¡ÖHello!!! ¡×

It is me and only me, again and again and again, Rosie.
This coming Friday is November 13,Do you know the
significance of this date?

C¡Çmon, I¡Çm sure there is something that will remind you of this date.

How about ¡ÈJason¡É wearing the mask? Right, now you remember!!!

This coming Friday, the group classes will feature topics related to Halloween.
Know more about the different cultures and beliefs of people all over the world.
This presentation will amaze you and a little bit of fright.

So, let me share my weird experience. Have you heard the word ¡Èdoppelganger?¡É

Yup, yup, yup¡Ä..you heard it right!!!She was in my 10 am class at that time.
Strangely, I saw her in RoomC between 5 and 7 pm.
From where I¡Çm sitting, I could see someone who passes by my room.

And she passed by but I did not say hi because I was busy having my lesson
with my student.

Fine, I will just ask her tomorrow.

The next day, I asked her and explained about seeing her in Room C.
Her reaction was not the one I was expecting.

She was so surprised and denied that she has class that,
she was in bed feeling sick.

She was wearing the same clothes that she is wearing the next day¡Ä
.everything was exactly as I saw.

We all fell in a very quiet, eerie air of silence¡Ä¡Ä¡Ä¡Ä

Do you want to share any of your experiences with us?

It's time to share another grammar trivia with you
and it is about the preposition "of".

As we all know, when a preposition is followed by a
personal pronoun, we usually use the

objective form: me, us, you, it, him, her and them.

For example: This gift is "for her".
Many women are interested in him.

When we use the preposition "of" to express possession,
however,

we can use the possessive form: mine, ours, yours, his,
hers and theirs.

For example:I met a friend "of yours".

This is another way of saying I met "your friend".

It is simple, isn't it?

I hope you always enjoy reading the column of mine.
